Rooster Teeth’s Jack Pattillo at the Toronto Fan Expo
Sunday afternoon at the 2012 Toronto Fan Expo, after I interviewed the folks from Dead Before Dawn 3D movie, I wandered over to the Rooster Teeth/Red vs. Blue booth and observed Rooster Teeth’s Jack Pattillo and his crew interact with their many fans.
Sundays later in the afternoon is usually one of the best times to hit up the guests for interviews, but even so it took about 10 minutes for me to work in a word edgewise with Mr. Pattillo.
It was well worth it though as I had heard about the Machinima animation process and had seen Machinma, but had never actually met any of the Machinima artists.
Jack was kind enough to fill me in a bit on the process as well as update me on what the company does besides Red vs. Blue.
The interview concluded with some insight related to playing games with your new boss who happens to be a top notch gamer, but for that you will have to watch the interview!
George R. R. Martin and Ron Donachie with the World Con 70 Staff Photographer
This weekend George R. R. Martin and Ron Donachie were on hand at the World Science Fiction Convention to receive the Hugo Award for the HBO epic series Game of Thrones.
I settled for a few shots over the heads of the throng of photographers who lined the front of the stage area several people deep.
As soon as the photographer snapped the official pics of the author and actor, they slipped back stage and disappeared from the crowd.
I made a quick dash for where I suspected they would reappear and was rewarded with the sight of their reemergence from the curtains.
I asked Mr. Donachie if I could get an interview as they passed and he told me to drop by the autograph area.
In the excitement I had forgotten that I had left my spare battery and charger on the sound man’s table and ended up going to the interview with my old point and shoot.
Fortunately, with a little tweaking, the audio and video quality are acceptible and I was thrilled, if a bit intimidated to be interviewing such notable folks from such a great show.
Laura E. Tommervik, Idris and Erin Evans, and Shelly Mazzanoble
Thursday afternoon I had the pleasure of chatting with Laura E. Tommervik, the Senior Brand Marketing Manager for the Dungeons and Dragons game at Gen Con 2012.
It was a pleasure chatting with her about Dungeons and Dragons and later in the evening I ran across Laura with the authors Erin Evans and <a title=”Shelly Mazzanoble’s official website” href=”http://shellymazzanoble.com/” target=”_blank”>Shelly Mazzanoble</a>.
These three lovely ladies have significant geek credit between the three of them, all being gamers and long time D and D players.
Erin is also one of the six authors that will be writing novels for the new generation of Forgotten Realms coming with D and D next.
As for Shelly Mazzanoble, I remember several years back when I was filling in at the register at one of my brother’s stores and Shelly’s book came in all pink and cutsy. I picked it up and chucked at the title, Confessions of a Part-time Sorceress, but found myself ensorcelled by the book itself and before I left the store that day I had purchased it.
So, to say the least, if I had been impressed with Laura’s Geek Creds when I interviewed her, later I was even moreso knowing that these are the ladies she works and plays with.
So check out what this intriguing lady has to say about the new products at Wizards of the Coast!
Tonight at the White Cap Comics in Grand Rapids, Michigan we played a demonstration game of Six Shooter that I picked up at Gen Con back in August.
I first saw a demonstration of the game at Gen Con and have been planning on having a demo of it at the store when they could get it in.
They now have it in and I have had two test groups play the game.
The game is a fast pace dice rolling game that is a sort of cross between Yahtzee and Bingo.
It comes with a deck of “goal” cards, “Bingo” cards, enough dice for up to four players to have a set of six dice and four erasable markers to mark off completed goal spots on the “Bingo” cards.
Each player gets six dice and a Six Shooter Bingo card where they try to fill a row, column, or diagonal in the Bingo style.
They over goal cards which will tell them what they are shooting for, such as four of a kind.
Then they get four rolls to make that goal and if they make the goal they mark the card.
The first test group that played was a more mature crowd who said that after playing it a few times they decided they would all roll simultaneously so that they wouldn’t lose track of how many times they rolled.
The second group was more competitive and thought it was a good idea to keep everyone honest on how many times they rolled.
The game is quick, easy to learn, everyone that played the game enjoyed it and I left my demo copy at the store for people to check it out.
If you’re a die hard D & D player or a D & D minis fan or just interested in learning the games, White Cap Comics and The Outer Limits are your headquarters for Dungeons and Dragons gaming.
